1 The object I have chosen are my favorite dark wash True Religion "low rise" skinny fit jeans.
2. The main purpose of the jeans are to be worn for casual as well as more dressed up occasions.
3. Some additional messages these jeans can send are by wearing them one may be trying to be seen by society as "fashionable" or wealthy that they can afford to buy expensive clothes. A mixed negative message the jeans could display are the fact that the style is "low rise" and they are tight fitting which could come across to some people as provocative for such an everyday item of clothing.
4. The features that are crucial in my analysis are the low waist band for the low rise style and the stretchy jean material that make the tight fitting jean look possible.
5. Some important features of the design elements are the distinct pocket flaps and designs on the pockets on the back of the jeans, which make it visible for people who are buying the jeans to try and find the exact one's celebrities are wearing. Also the "True Religion" brand's label sewed on the back of jeans that is visible to others that prove the authenticity of the designer jeans. The dark wash color of the jeans make it acceptable to wear them in the day for a casual look as well as at night for a more dressed up look.
6. The intended audience for these jeans are all women especially young women who are into fashion and what is "in". I fall into this category considering I am a young woman being 18 years old and I love fashion and enjoy collecting and wearing designer clothes. The low rise style also enables me to wear all different kinds of shirts with the jeans as well.
Thesis:
Everyday objects people use are not always understood with deeper meaning to them. A simple object to one person could represent another person for what they believe in. My favorite dark wash true religion "low rise" skinny fit jeans, I not only wear to class and out with my friends but also the idea and image of designer jeans pulls me into adding to my collection. These jeans relay a deeper understanding of societies effect of body image on teenage and young women who are not only expected to fit into these "skinny" jeans but are forced to feel that in order to be considered fashionable they must invest in expensive designer clothes, so they will be thought of by society as "stylish" or high class.

Derric Anne, this is a good start. Consider the following things as you develop and organize your argument. You mentioned a lot of very valid reasons why this particular pair of jeans would be a good “text” to analyze. You also did a very good job pointing out different elements of the design that are worth special attention and yourself as a target audience of this text. However, what about your message to your audience when you wear them? What statement are you making by wearing these jeans? Is the message the same if directed at females rather than males? What about older and younger generation rather than your peers? What makes young fashionably predisposed girls crave these jeans rather than cheaper knock offs? What if you found a pair that was strikingly similar in shape, color, waistline and fabric in Walmart or Target? Would you buy it at all? What price would you be willing to pay? From your description it follows that your pair are expensive. Could you tell that if you could not see the name of the brand? Can many people afford it? In the same price range, are do these jeans stand out for some reason? Why? Are these jeans durable? Is it something you could wear for all sorts of occasions (dress up or down)? How long would they stay in style? Would you get the wear out of them (for the money spent) or will you likely stash them into the back of your closet after a season? Would women 20-40 years older than you want to wear them or would it be inappropriate for this group? What makes these jeans special: the design, the price or the designer?:-)
I like that you related a simple pair of jeans to young women's body image and that they are also considered a status symbol in society.
